Louisville, Kentucky

The goal of this project is to improve community safety by working on policies and environmental changes that decrease alcohol and tobacco promotion signage and increase adequate lighting surrounding the neighborhood and its local businesses. Youth and adult residents will facilitate a walkability study, the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) assessment, GIS mapping and crime data obtained from Louisville Metro Police to identify the store fronts and business with excessive signage, unlit streets, and areas with an abundance of litter and loitering. The youth participants will utilize all data in the development of a photo-voice presentation. The goal is to facilitate a positive sense of community and safety.
