This project creates the environmental, policy, and organizational change within the underserved Westwood community to develop a healthy, local food system while providing meaningful, ongoing pro-social opportunities for delinquent or at-risk youth. Both health and violence prevention advocates are coming together through vegetable gardens to help youth identify and restructure the faulty thought processes believed to underlie anti-social attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. With the creation of an organic farm, weekly farmer’s market, and the Kepner Urban Training Farm Program, it will achieve the ultimate goal of developing a healthy, local food system that leads to a strong, safe, and healthy community. |
