Chula Vista, California

This pilot project's goal is to improve Chula Vista’s capacity to effectively communicate with government and local advocates about changes needed to improve the quality of public spaces in identified areas of western Chula Vista, and to reduce the threat of violence (and thereby promote physical activity) in areas of the community that have been perpetually challenged by crime, disorder, and the threat of violence. Providers and engaged community residents will cross train one another, lead and mobilize community residents in various aspects of assessment, environmental and community condition change and public policy development strategies for each site, to stimulate immediate physical improvements at each target location, and forge ahead with the implementation of sustainable, strategic and long-range policy goals, to ultimately increase quality of life and livability in and around these areas.
